Coaching Services
Most athletes work hard on practicing for competition,
yet may not perform as they expect they should. Often times
athletes will ask: “Why do poor performances happen to hard
working athletes?” The answer is simply that these athletes have
not trained their minds as they have trained their bodies.
Frustrated athletes today in
all sports ranging from archery to hockey are enlisting
sports psychologists or mental coaches to help them improve
their performance. They understand that mental skills training,
in conjunction with physical skill training, will bring their
performance to the next level.
"Sports performance is 60%
physical and 90% mental.”
- Yogi Berra
Many athletes, frustrated with performance lags or
plateaus, achieve success using sports psychology
techniques. The techniques taught by mental coaches are also
useful to performing artists and business people to help
alleviate anxiety, increase confidence, and enhance overall
performance. Some of the techniques used include:
- Awareness Training - identifying personal
physiological responses to stress and control over those
responses.
- Mental Toughness - the key to enhanced
performance; the ability to make the mind and body work
as one.
- Visualization - “seeing” a performance in the
mind’s eye before a performance is an excellent tool for
success.
- Relaxation Training - breathing and other
techniques to control level of arousal to enhance
performance.
- Self-Talk Control - the ability to change
negative talk to positive talk.
- Confidence Training - learn ways to build
confidence and improve game performance.
- Goal Setting - setting realistic achievable
goals to turn weakness into strengths.
- Fostering Team Cohesiveness - teams develop
skills as a unit to improve play while supporting the
individual athlete.
